CIS/NEASC ACCREDITATION WORKSHOP – ‘THE TEAM VISIT’
Training for prospective team members

PRE-CONFERENCE DAY, TAISI TEACHERS’ AND ADMINISTRATORS’ CONFERENCE,
LAVASA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE, LAVASA, NEAR PUNE, INDIA

Thursday 23 September 2010 09.00 – 17.30
presented by Officers of the CIS Accreditation Service and NEASC/CAISA

The Council of International Schools (CIS) Accreditation Programme now encompasses over 400 schools world-wide, and the number continues to grow. Over 3,000 administrators and teachers have been trained to serve as members of Accreditation Visiting Teams.

The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accredits nearly every college, public secondary school, independent school, and technical and career educational institutions in New England, and also accredits approximately 180 international schools in over 60 countries. Many of the international school accreditations are conducted jointly with CIS. This workshop therefore qualifies the participant to serve on a CIS, NEASC, and/or CIS/NEASC visiting team.

Participation in an Accreditation Team Visit is a valuable, demanding and highly satisfying experience. This workshop is designed for administrators, teachers, and school business managers who wish to be considered for membership of Visiting Teams. This is a full-day sign-up event and places will be limited. Places will be allocated in order of receipt, so prompt action is required for reservations.

The aims of the workshop are to accomplish the following outcomes:

Participants should:

  1. develop an understanding of the philosophy, purposes, principles and practices of the accreditation process, with a particular focus on the significance of the Team Visit.
  2. gain practice in analysing a self-study to obtain key information.
  3. become familiar with the required format and style for Visiting Team Reports and gain experience in writing these reports.
  4. gain practice at working well under the pressure of deadlines and appreciate that this is part of the ‘Visiting Team Experience’.
  5. gain experience of working in teams and reaching consensus.
  6. gain a sense of what constitutes an ‘effective’ visit i.e. responding appropriately to sensitive or controversial issues or events, conducting classroom visits in a constructive way, and establishing positive relationships between the Team and the school.
  7. develop the ability to discriminate between major issues and relatively minor ones, in order to be able to identify major commendations and recommendations.
  8. to understand the options available when making a decision on the Team’s recommendation regarding Accreditation, and the means by which Teams reach consensus on this recommendation.

Prior to the workshop each participant will be sent relevant materials so that preparatory work can be completed.

There is no CIS charge for this event. There is a charge payable directly to TAISI –

see www.taisindia.org for full conference and payment information

Workshop places are limited; registrations will be accepted in order of receipt
